Singapore CBD (Central Business District) contains the principle financial and commercial districts in Singapore including; Downtown Core, Marina East, Marina South, Newton, Orchard, River Valley, Singapore River and Straits View. There are numerous skyscrapers in the CBD. Skyscrapers in the city include the relatively new building including; UOB building and the Sail at Marina Bay, as well as the older Swisstel The Stamford, which once held the title as the world's tallest hotel.

The majority of Singapore's tallest buildings are to be found in the CBD. Many commercial buildings reflect the cultural Chinese heritage of Singapore. The UOB Plaza makes uses traditional Chinese symbol of the octagon in its design, this is believed to bring about good Feng Shui according to traditional Chinese geomancy. Around the city center, the types of buildings change dramatically. The Raffles Place area has been changed from a low lying shop house region to an area that is exclusive to skyscrapers, the density of offices space in Singapore is probably the highest here.

SBS Transit and SMRT also offer bus services from the various parts of Singapore to the CBD via direct bus services. A new scheme of premium bus services running during the peak hours provides quick connections to downtown. The central area of Singapore is to undergo significant changes in the next few years. This expansion includes the development of industrial buildings, as well as road development and other major infrastructural projects including the expansion of the Mass Rapid Transit system's Circle Line, to be completed in 2012.

There are also recreational facilities planned for development in the central area. These include the Gardens at the Bay, the Sports Hub, and the Fullerton Heritage. These will have significant impact on the recreational and sporting amenities in Singapore. Additionally, the largest project in the area is the Marina Bay Sands Resort situated along the waterfront of Marina Bay.
